      Pallet Wide ; Pallet width

What is a Pallet Wide container?

A Pallet Wide container differs from a standard container in just one dimension, but it is a decisive one: its internal width is extended to 2.44 m, versus approximately 2.29 m on a standard container. This gain of a few centimetres is not arbitrary — it is calculated for the Euro pallet.

The Euro pallet measures 1.20 m × 0.80 m. In a standard container, two pallets placed side by side across the width do not fit squarely: there is a gap, space is lost, or they must be positioned differently. The 2.44 m of the Pallet Wide allows two Euro pallets to stand side by side perfectly flush, with no lateral gap between rows.

The benefit is purely logistical, but concrete. At the same length, a Pallet Wide carries more pallets than a standard container. On regular palletised flows, this optimised fill ratio reduces the number of containers needed for the same volume — and therefore the cost of transport per cubic metre. The box also retains the ISO corner castings, giving it full maritime compatibility with any standard container.

      • 2.44 m width

Internal width increases from approximately 2.29 m to 2.44 m. This gain allows two Euro pallets to stand side by side, perfectly flush, with no wasted lateral gap between rows.
      • Optimum fill ratio

At the same length, the Pallet Wide carries more pallets than a standard container. The dead space between rows disappears, maximising the volume actually used.
      • Lower cost per m³

More pallets per container means fewer containers for the same flow. On regular palletised supply chains, the cost of transport per cubic metre drops significantly.
      • Maritime-compatible

Despite its extended width, the Pallet Wide retains the standardised ISO corner castings. It is lifted, secured, and handled in every port, exactly like a standard container.

      In detail

What is a first-trip 40 ft Pallet Wide High Cube shipping container?

A Pallet Wide container is a shipping container with an increased internal width: 2.44 m, compared to 2.35 m on a classic Dry. "HC" stands for High Cube: the container gains about 30 cm of height over the standard 8'6" format. The term "first-trip" (also called one-trip) means it is a new unit, straight from the factory after a single positioning trip.

The combination of increased width and High Cube height frees up a usable volume of 76 m³ and allows direct loading of 24 Euro pallets 800 × 1200 mm, with light stacking possible; stacking pallets on two levels. The new structure rests on a fully welded Corten steel box, a steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, and a 28 mm marine plywood floor.

In the long 40 ft HC format, the unit offers 76 m³ usable for a 26,460 kg payload and a 2.69 m internal height. It's the reference for large-volume pan-European pallet logistics: multi-customer turnarounds and food or cosmetics exports in bulk packaging.

      In detail

Why does a Pallet Wide container carry more pallets?

The Euro pallet, the continent's standard pallet, measures 800 × 1200 mm. A classic Dry container has an internal width of 2.35 m. This width doesn't leave room to line up pallets in their most compact orientation: space is lost in every row.

The Pallet Wide widens the internal width to 2.44 m, 9 cm more. This gain is enough to fit Euro pallets with no wasted space. On a 40 ft High Cube, it allows 24 pallets on the floor; the 2.69 m HC height additionally allows light stacking, up to 48 pallets on two levels.

      Applications

Uses of a first-trip 40 ft Pallet Wide HC shipping container

The long format combines length and HC height for maximum palletization: 24 Euro pallets on the floor, or up to 48 with light stacking. Four uses take advantage of it:

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-site need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Large-volume pan-European food distribution

Multi-customer exports to major retailers, direct optimization of 40 ft fill rate.

      • Cosmetics export industry

Standardized Euro pallets with high stacking, maximum capacity per shipment. This reference point lets you confirm compatibility with the site, the goods, and the planned handling means.

      • E-commerce logistics; central hub

Inbound palletized stock and outbound prepared orders, with HC access for vertical packaging.

      • Beverage export distribution

Pallets of bottles and kegs stacked on two levels for regional exports.

      Highlights

Why buy a first-trip 40 ft Pallet Wide HC shipping container

The new 40 ft Pallet Wide HC combines two palletized fill-rate optimizations: increased width and High Cube height. The strengths below explain what each one brings and why their combination maximizes the number of pallets transported.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Maximum volume, 76 m³

The Pallet Wide and High Cube combination brings volume to 76 m³, sized for a Euro pallet load optimized in both width and height.

      • 24 Euro pallets on the floor

The 2.44 m width allows 24 Euro pallets on the floor, the maximum capacity of the 40 HC Pallet Wide format.

      • 2.69 m internal height

The HC height allows light two-level pallet stacking, up to 48 pallets in total.

      • 2.44 m internal width

90 mm more than a classic Dry, just enough to fit two Euro pallets side by side directly, flush against each other.

      • 26,460 kg payload

Load capacity preserved despite combining HC height and Pallet Wide width. No compromise on transportable weight.

      • ISO 6346 and CSC compliance

The unit is fit for multimodal transport. Its High Cube size requires checking available clearance heights on routes with low bridges.

      Applications

What is the price of a first-trip 40 ft Pallet Wide HC shipping container

The new 40 ft Pallet Wide HC belongs to a specialized maritime segment. Its price depends on the High Cube and increased-width combination, rarer than a classic Dry.

Four factors drive the observed price:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help you read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability, and delivery costs.

      • Large-format pan-European pallet logistics demand

Strong growth in e-commerce and food distribution sustains HC Pallet Wide demand.

      • Corten steel and hardware cost

The long, tall box, 270° doors and locking bars weigh into the factory price.

      • Maritime logistics bottlenecks

40 HC Pallet Wide supply remains limited compared to standard formats.

      • Downstream costs

HC road transport with bridge/tunnel clearance checks. This factor helps understand the possible gap between an indicative price and the actual quote.
