What is a Pallet Wide container?

In detail
What is a first-trip 45 ft Pallet Wide High Cube shipping container?
A Pallet Wide container is a shipping container with an increased internal width: 2.44 m, compared to 2.35 m on a classic Dry. "HC" stands for High Cube: the container gains height over the standard 8'6" format. The term "first-trip" (also called one-trip) means it is a new unit, straight from the factory after a single positioning trip. The 45 ft is the maximum format in the pan-European pallet segment.

With an external length of 13.716 m, the increased 2.44 m width and HC height, the cabin fits up to 27 Euro pallets 800 × 1200 mm on the floor; 12.5% more capacity than a 40 HC Pallet Wide. The new structure rests on a Corten steel box, a steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, and a marine plywood floor.
In the ultra-long 45 ft format, the unit offers 89.2 m³ usable (13.556 m × 2.440 m × 2.698 m) for a 25,530 kg payload. It's the reference for large-volume pan-European pallet exports to the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Central Europe.
Model dimensions
Usable space and access
- Door opening (W × H)
- 2,416 m × 2,578 m
- Interior (L × W × H)
- 13,556 m × 2,444 m × 2,695 m
Use the internal dimensions to plan the load or equipment layout. Allow the clearances needed for movement, handling and maintenance for your intended use.
Mass and load distribution
Check total mass, point loads, load distribution and handling equipment compatibility. Available volume does not determine permissible load: reference masses are listed in the technical specifications.

Exterior dimensions and installation
- Exterior (L × W × H)
- 13,716 m × 2,500 m × 2,896 m
These dimensions describe the container envelope. Door movements, connections and servicing may require additional space around the unit.
The unloading area depends on the vehicle and lifting method. It must be assessed separately from the container’s final position.

Read the dimensions guideLe choix de l’état
In detail
Why does a Pallet Wide container carry more pallets?
The Euro pallet, the continent's standard pallet, measures 800 × 1200 mm. A classic Dry container has an internal width of 2.35 m. This width doesn't leave room to line up pallets in their most compact orientation: space is lost in every row.
The Pallet Wide widens the internal width to 2.44 m, 9 cm more. This gain is enough to fit Euro pallets with no wasted space. Combined with the ultra-long 45 ft format and HC height, it brings capacity to 27 pallets on the floor; the highest in the palletized maritime segment.
Applications
Uses of a first-trip 45 ft Pallet Wide HC shipping container
The 45 ft HC Pallet Wide format maximizes Euro pallet loading: 27 pallets on the floor, versus 24 on a 40 HC Pallet Wide and 11 on a 20 Pallet Wide. Four uses take advantage of it:
The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-site need to the container's concrete benefit.

Why buy a first-trip 45 ft Pallet Wide HC shipping container
The new 45 ft Pallet Wide HC combines three optimizations on a single box: the ultra-long 45 ft length, Pallet Wide width and High Cube height. The strengths below explain what this combination brings to the palletized fill rate of pan-European exports.
