      Bulk ; Dry bulk container

      What is a Bulk container?

A Bulk container is a container dedicated to dry bulk: grains, plastic granules, powders, and divided materials. It differs from a standard container in two specific features — loading hatches fitted in the roof, and discharge hatches in the lower section.

These openings create a complete gravity-fed handling circuit. Bulk product is poured through the roof hatches, directly from a silo or hopper: it falls and fills the box without any handling. On arrival, discharge is done through the lower hatches or by tipping the container; the bulk material flows out on its own.

The advantage is the elimination of a costly step: bagging. Where a standard container requires bulk material to be packaged into bags or big-bags before loading, the Bulk container transports the raw material as-is. The supply chain is shortened, handling is faster, and the product is only handled at filling and discharge.

      • Roof hatches

Hatches fitted in the roof receive bulk material by gravity, directly from a silo or hopper. The box fills without any handling of the product.
      • Fast discharge

Unloading is done through the lower hatches or by tipping the container. The bulk material flows out on its own, without needing to be manually removed.
      • Dry bulk

The format is designed for grains, plastic granules, powders, and divided materials. All these goods flow and pour, making them compatible with gravity-based handling.
      • Faster handling

The Bulk container eliminates the bagging step throughout the supply chain. The product travels in bulk from end to end, reducing packaging costs and processing time.

      In detail

What is a used 20 ft BULK container?

The 20 ft BULK container is a shipping container designed for dry bulk; unpackaged solid materials such as grain, plastic pellets or sand. The roof has loading hatches: the product enters from the top, by gravity, from a silo or hopper. The rear doors, opening to 270°, are used for unloading. The term "used" designates an inspected used unit, previously used and inspected before being put back on sale.

The casing is made of Corten steel; a weathering steel that resists corrosion on its own. The wood floor has a food-grade coating, suited to agri-food products. The unit offers 33 m³ of usable interior volume for a 28,080 kg payload.

For a Used version, National Conteneur uses this technical base as a reference, then qualifies each unit according to its actual condition: structure, weatherproofing, doors, floor, markings, documents and equipment specific to the product family. The technical information therefore remains that of the model, while cosmetic condition, availability and certificates depend on the batch offered.

      In detail

BULK or Tank container: what's the difference?

Both containers handle bulk transport, but for opposite types of material. The maritime Tank container carries liquids or gases: it's equipped with a steel vessel, valves and pressure gauges. The BULK carries dry, solid bulk, in powder or granule form, in a conventional casing fitted with hatches on the roof.

The choice therefore depends on the material. A food or chemical liquid requires a Tank container. Grain, cement or plastic pellets require a BULK: gravity loading from a silo and unloading through the rear doors, by gravity or pneumatic suction, are specific to this format.

      Applications

Uses for a used 20 ft BULK container

The 20 ft BULK serves all dry bulk flows that are loaded from a silo and unloaded in bulk.

The applications below show the contexts in which this format is most relevant. Each use case links the on-site need to the concrete benefit of the container.

      • Agri-food industry

Grain (wheat, corn, soybeans), oilseeds, sugar, cocoa and green coffee.

      • Plastics industry

Plastic pellets (PE, PP, PVC), polymer powders and bulk additives.

      • Dry bulk chemical industry

Mineral powders, industrial salts and bulk food-industry additives.

      • Construction and cement industry

Bulk cement, industrial sand, lime and mineral fillers.

      Highlights

Why buy a used 20 ft BULK container

The inspected used 20 ft Bulk container is designed for a complete dry bulk handling circuit, from the silo to the delivery point. The strengths below explain what each feature brings, hatches, floor, capacity, and why this format eliminates the costly bagging step.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Roof loading hatches

The roof hatches receive bulk material by gravity, directly from a silo or hopper. Filling is fast and requires no handling of the product.

      • Rear doors opening to 270°

The double doors fold back completely for unloading by gravity or pneumatic suction, depending on the material transported.

      • Food-grade wood floor coating

The floor coating complies with food-contact requirements. The container transports bulk agri-food products without risk of contamination.

      • 33 m³ usable volume

The capacity is equivalent to that of a standard dry container. The bulk equipment does not reduce the available volume.

      • 28,080 kg payload

This high tonnage is suited to dense materials such as cement, pellets or bulk ore.

      • Corten steel casing

The weathering steel structure guarantees maritime ruggedness, compliant with ISO 6346 and CSC standards.

      Applications

What is the price of a used 20 ft BULK container

The inspected used 20 ft BULK container is a specialized product in maritime trade. Its price reflects the specialization of the roof hatches and food-grade coating, in addition to the condition of the casing.

      Four factors drive price variations:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability and delivery costs.

      • Demand for international dry bulk transport

Agri-food and plastics flows sustain steady demand.

      • Cost of Corten steel and equipment

The casing, roof hatches and food-grade coating weigh on the product's price.

      • Maritime logistics pressure

BULK supply remains more limited than that of standard dry containers.

      • Downstream costs

Standard 20 ft road transport and the silo or hopper infrastructure needed for loading.
