What is a used 20 ft DNV Offshore container?
This container is the pivotal maritime format of the offshore segment. "DNV Offshore" means it is certified DNV 2.7-1, the mandatory standard for handling at sea. The term "used" means it is an inspected used unit, sourced from a used fleet that is inspected before being put back on sale. The standard 8'6" (2.591 m) height accommodates all standardized offshore equipment.
This is the reference format for North Sea operations: operating oil platforms, offshore wind farms, supply vessels. The inspected used structure combines a Corten steel casing, a weathering steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, fully welded, reinforced with high-resilience carbon steel elements to absorb the impacts of handling in rough seas, and a 28 mm marine plywood floor.
The lifting equipment is complete: reinforced frame, anti-slip pads on the underside, forged steel rings standardized to DNV, and a spreader bar, the lifting yoke that distributes the load across the four corners, included, compatible with all DNV-certified cranes.
For a Used version, National Conteneur uses this technical base as a reference, then qualifies each unit according to its actual condition: structure, weatherproofing, doors, floor, markings, documents and equipment specific to the product family. The technical information therefore remains that of the model, while cosmetic condition, availability and certificates depend on the batch offered.
In detail
Why a DNV 2.7-1 certified container?
The DNV 2.7-1 standard, current designation DNVGL-ST-E271 since the DNV and GL merger in 2013, is issued by Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian maritime certification body. This is the mandatory condition for access to certified offshore cranes: major operators (TotalEnergies, Equinor, Shell, BP for oil and gas, Vestas and Siemens Gamesa for offshore wind) refuse any loading without a valid certificate.
The standard covers severe tests: cyclic fatigue of the lifting rings, free fall from 1.2 m onto a hard surface, unbalanced lift simulating crane sway in rough seas, resistance to lateral impacts against a hull or platform structure. The European standard EN 12079 provides the complementary compliance. Recertification is required every 4 years, with documented traceability according to file.
The pivotal 20 ft format adds volume: 33.15 m³ of usable space makes it possible to fit a variety of offshore packaging, consumables, bulky spare parts, technical equipment, in a single maritime transit to the platform.
Applications
Uses for a used 20 ft DNV Offshore container
The pivotal 20 ft DNV format targets offshore operations where usable volume and compliance are equally critical. Four uses take advantage of it:
The applications below show the contexts in which this format is most relevant. Each use case links the on-site need to the concrete benefit of the container.
Highlights
Why buy a used 20 ft DNV Offshore container
The inspected used 20 ft DNV Offshore container is the pivotal format of maritime logistics: it combines offshore certification with the capacity of the reference format. The strengths below explain what each feature brings to handling on a platform and support vessel.
The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.
-
DNV 2.7-1 / DNVGL-ST-E271 certification
This is the condition for access to the offshore cranes of North Sea and deep-sea platforms. Without it, the container is refused for loading.
-
High-resilience impact-resistant steel
The structure is designed for handling on a support vessel in rough seas. The steel absorbs impacts and dynamic stresses without cracking.
-
Standardized offshore spreader bar
The lifting yoke is compatible with all DNV-certified cranes. Pickup requires no adaptation, at any offshore site.
-
Reinforced frame and anti-slip pads
The reinforced frame and anti-slip pads ensure the container's stability on the ship's deck as well as its fixing on the platform.
-
Pivotal 20 ft standard 8'6" format
33.15 m³ of usable volume offers the multi-item capacity of the reference format, with international compatibility.
-
28 mm marine plywood floor
A continuous surface that withstands rolling loads and the passage of forklifts, in demanding sea conditions.
-
EN 12079 compliance
The complementary European offshore standard is validated. It reinforces DNV compliance for handling at sea.
Applications
What is the price of a used 20 ft DNV Offshore container
The pivotal 20 ft DNV format is the reference volume of the offshore segment: controlled production from a few specialized manufacturers, continuous demand aligned with the industrial cycles of oil, gas and offshore wind.
Four factors drive the price observed:
The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability and delivery costs.
