A Hard Top container is a container with a removable rigid roof: its upper section is a steel sheet that is removed by crane to load cargo from above. The "first-trip" designation means it is a new unit, straight from the factory after a single positioning journey. The 20ft format is the range's intermediate size.
The new structure is built on a Corten steel box; a self-weathering steel that naturally resists marine corrosion. The roof is a rigid sheet secured by cleats, locking bars that clamp it onto the box, and removable by crane. The rear doors feature a pivoting movable header: the doors' top crossbar pivots to let a tall part through without removing the roof.
The 20ft format offers 32.4 m³ of usable volume (5.89 m × 2.34 m × 2.35 m) for 27,780 kg of payload and 13.7 m² of floor area. The rigid sheet provides better sealing and anti-intrusion security than an Open Top tarpaulin, while keeping a payload close to that of a standard Dry container.

Hard Top or Open Top: rigid sheet or tarpaulin?
Both families load from the top, by crane. The difference lies in the roof. The Open Top closes its opening with a polyester tarpaulin tensioned over metal bows. The Hard Top closes it with a rigid steel sheet locked by cleats.
The rigid sheet changes two things. It holds up better over time: no tarpaulin to inspect or replace, and a lasting seal. It protects better: locked with cleats, it resists break-ins where a tarpaulin can simply be cut. In exchange, removing it requires a crane. The Hard Top is therefore the right choice when out-of-gauge cargo, OOG, for Out Of Gauge, meaning too tall to fit through the doors, travels for a long time or must stay protected.
