      Reefer DNV Offshore

What is a Reefer DNV Offshore?

The Reefer DNV Offshore combines two requirements in a single container: the active refrigeration of a Reefer and the offshore DNV 2.7-1 certification. This standard, published by the Norwegian body DNV, governs the construction of containers designed to be lifted and handled at sea.

Offshore lifting imposes constraints that a standard container cannot withstand. A platform crane lifts the load while both the vessel and the platform are moving: the container is subjected to violent dynamic forces, far beyond anything experienced in port handling. The DNV 2.7-1 standard therefore requires a reinforced frame, certified lifting points, and slings rated for these loads.

The Reefer DNV Offshore is thus the only refrigerated container that can be embarked on an oil platform, an offshore wind farm, or a support vessel. It maintains the cold chain there — crew provisions, samples, sensitive products — in environments where a standard Reefer would simply be refused at embarkation.

      • DNV 2.7-1 certification

This is the reference offshore standard, mandatory for any equipment lifted and handled at sea. Without it, the container is simply refused at embarkation on a platform or vessel.
      • Active refrigeration

The refrigeration unit maintains the cold chain on an isolated offshore site, far from any shore-based logistics. It secures crew provisions and sensitive products throughout the mission.
      • Certified lifting

The frame and lifting points are sized for the dynamic loads of offshore lifts. They absorb the violent forces experienced when a crane moves the container between a vessel and a platform in motion.
      • Offshore use

The container is designed for oil platforms, offshore wind farms, and support vessels. It provides a reliable cold chain where no standard Reefer can operate.

      In detail

What is a new 10ft Reefer DNV Offshore shipping container?

This container combines two critical functions. "Reefer" refers to a refrigerated container with an active cooling unit that produces and regulates cold. "DNV Offshore" means it is certified DNV 2.7-1, the mandatory standard for handling at sea. The "first-trip" designation means it is a new unit, straight from the factory after a single positioning journey. The 10ft format is the range's short format.

The new structure combines a box in Corten steel and reinforced stainless steel, polyurethane insulation, an insulating foam, and a T-rail floor: the "T-rail" lets cold air circulate under the load for an even temperature. The cooling unit regulates a range from −30°C to +30°C. A standardized spreader bar, the lifting beam that distributes the load across the four corners, is included for offshore cranes.

In the compact 10ft format, the unit offers 12 m³ of usable volume (2.381 m × 2.284 m × 2.261 m) for 12,400 kg of payload. It is a format optimized for space-constrained areas on an offshore platform.

      In detail

Why a DNV 2.7-1 certified Reefer container?

The DNV 2.7-1 standard, now designated DNVGL-ST-E271, is issued by Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian maritime certification body. It is mandatory for any transfer by certified offshore crane to a platform, a wind farm, or a support vessel, in the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, or the North Atlantic. It requires cyclic fatigue, free-fall, unbalanced-lifting, and side-impact resistance tests, which simulate handling conditions in rough seas.

The Reefer and DNV combination meets a specific need: transporting temperature-sensitive products to an isolated platform, fresh food for the crew, medications, biological samples, with the dual requirement of active thermal regulation and offshore lifting certification.

      Applications

Keeping your products at the right temperature with a new 10ft DNV Reefer

The cooling unit maintains a range from −30°C to +30°C even in rough seas, under polyurethane insulation on this compact format. Four categories of goods suit this:

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use case connects the on-site need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Crew provisions

Fresh, frozen, and prepared meals for long-term storage on the platform.

      • Offshore medical pharmacy

Medications, vaccines, and blood at controlled temperature for onboard care.

      • Biological and geological samples

Core samples and seismic samples preserved at controlled temperature. This reference confirms the container's fitness for regulated transport, handling, or storage.

      • Sensitive maintenance products

Technical adhesives and structural glues subject to strict storage temperature requirements.

      Highlights

Why buy a new 10ft Reefer DNV Offshore shipping container

The 10ft Reefer DNV Offshore solves a two-constraint equation: maintaining the cold chain and being lifted at sea. The strengths below explain what each feature brings to this extreme use, dual certification, temperature range, reinforced structure, in a compact format built for crowded decks.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • DNV 2.7-1 certified Reefer

The active cooling unit and offshore lifting certification are combined in a single unit. This dual capability is what makes the container boardable onto a platform at sea.

      • Temperature range −30°C to +30°C

The cooling unit maintains its setpoint continuously, even as the ship and platform pitch. The cold chain is never broken by sea conditions.

      • Compact 10ft format

12 m³ of usable volume optimized for restricted deck areas. On a platform where every square meter counts, this short format fits where a 20ft would not.

      • Corten and reinforced stainless steel box

The structure is sized for maritime-grade robustness and handling shocks at sea. It absorbs the stresses the DNV standard requires to be simulated during testing.

      • Offshore spreader bar and dedicated maintenance

The standardized lifting beam is included, and servicing is provided by certified refrigeration technicians. The unit arrives ready to be lifted and monitored on site.

      • ISO 6346 and ATP/CAT-S compliance

Beyond offshore use, the container remains fit for multimodal transport under controlled temperature. It fits into both land and maritime supply chains.

      Applications

What is the price of a new 10ft Reefer DNV Offshore shipping container

The 10ft Reefer DNV is an ultra-specialized market: it combines refrigeration regulation and offshore certification in a compact format, produced in very small batches.

Four factors drive the quote observed:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help you read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability, and delivery costs.

      • Offshore demand for cold chain transport

North Sea operations requiring thermal regulation sustain a narrow but recurring demand.

      • Cost of the cooling unit, reinforced box, and DNV certification

Three specialized cost items that add up in the factory price. This factor helps explain the possible gap between an indicative price and the actual quote.

      • Maritime logistics pressures

Reefer DNV supply remains highly concentrated among a few manufacturers. This factor helps explain the possible gap between an indicative price and the actual quote.

      • Downstream costs

Road transport to the transit port, transshipment by supply vessel, handling by certified offshore crane.
