      Reefer DNV Offshore

What is a Reefer DNV Offshore?

The Reefer DNV Offshore combines two requirements in a single container: the active refrigeration of a Reefer and the offshore DNV 2.7-1 certification. This standard, published by the Norwegian body DNV, governs the construction of containers designed to be lifted and handled at sea.

Offshore lifting imposes constraints that a standard container cannot withstand. A platform crane lifts the load while both the vessel and the platform are moving: the container is subjected to violent dynamic forces, far beyond anything experienced in port handling. The DNV 2.7-1 standard therefore requires a reinforced frame, certified lifting points, and slings rated for these loads.

The Reefer DNV Offshore is thus the only refrigerated container that can be embarked on an oil platform, an offshore wind farm, or a support vessel. It maintains the cold chain there — crew provisions, samples, sensitive products — in environments where a standard Reefer would simply be refused at embarkation.

      • DNV 2.7-1 certification

This is the reference offshore standard, mandatory for any equipment lifted and handled at sea. Without it, the container is simply refused at embarkation on a platform or vessel.
      • Active refrigeration

The refrigeration unit maintains the cold chain on an isolated offshore site, far from any shore-based logistics. It secures crew provisions and sensitive products throughout the mission.
      • Certified lifting

The frame and lifting points are sized for the dynamic loads of offshore lifts. They absorb the violent forces experienced when a crane moves the container between a vessel and a platform in motion.
      • Offshore use

The container is designed for oil platforms, offshore wind farms, and support vessels. It provides a reliable cold chain where no standard Reefer can operate.

      In detail

What is a used 20 ft Reefer DNV Offshore container?

This container is the pivotal format of the offshore refrigerated segment. "Reefer" refers to a refrigerated container with an active cooling unit, which generates and regulates cold. "DNV Offshore" means it is certified DNV 2.7-1, the mandatory standard for handling at sea. The term "used" means it is an inspected used unit, sourced from a used fleet that is inspected before being put back on sale.

The inspected used structure is built on a forged aluminum alloy casing: this material lightens the unit while maintaining high strength, an advantage for intensive offshore use. The cooling unit regulates a range of −25°C to +25°C on a 380/460 V power supply, and the T-bar rail floor, the "T-rail," lets cold air circulate under the load for a uniform temperature.

In the pivotal 20 ft format, the unit offers 28.4 m³ of usable volume (5.456 m × 2.294 m × 2.273 m) for a 10,000 kg payload; a load reduced by the reinforced offshore structural weight, the unit weighing 5,070 kg empty. This is the reference format for refrigerated operations on North Sea and North Atlantic oil platforms.

For a Used version, National Conteneur uses this technical base as a reference, then qualifies each unit according to its actual condition: structure, weatherproofing, doors, floor, markings, documents and equipment specific to the product family. The technical information therefore remains that of the model, while cosmetic condition, availability and certificates depend on the batch offered.

      In detail

Why a Reefer container certified DNV 2.7-1?

The DNV 2.7-1 standard, current designation DNVGL-ST-E271, is issued by Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian maritime certification body. It sets the mandatory specifications for lifting by platform crane: fatigue tests, free-fall tests, unbalanced lift tests and lateral impact resistance tests. Without it, a container cannot be accepted by certified offshore cranes onto operating platforms.

The Reefer and DNV combination in the 20 ft format brings together three strengths: the Reefer's active thermal regulation, certified offshore resistance and the multi-item capacity of the pivotal format. The forged aluminum alloy casing lightens the whole while guaranteeing impact resistance in rough seas; a compromise built for offshore refrigerated transport.

      Applications

Keeping your products at the right temperature with a used 20 ft Reefer DNV

The cooling unit continuously maintains a range of −25°C to +25°C, on a pivotal format suited to multi-item operations. Four categories of goods are well suited to it:

The applications below show the contexts in which this format is most relevant. Each use case links the on-site need to the concrete benefit of the container.

      • Crew provisions for long stays

Fresh, frozen and ready meals on oil platforms, on 30 to 90 day rotations.

      • Maintenance medical supplies

Emergency and routine care medicines for wind farm technical teams.

      • Oceanographic research

Biological samples and scientific specimens preserved at controlled temperature.

      • Offshore seismic industry

Geological core samples preserved at controlled temperature during transit to the laboratory.

      Highlights

Why buy a used 20 ft Reefer DNV Offshore container

The 20 ft Reefer DNV Offshore is the pivotal format of the offshore refrigerated segment: it combines active regulation, offshore lifting certification and the multi-item capacity of the 20 ft. The strengths below explain what each feature brings to this extreme use.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Reefer certified DNV 2.7-1

The active cooling unit and offshore lifting certification are combined in a single unit. It's this dual capability that makes the container suitable for loading onto an offshore platform.

      • −25°C to +25°C temperature range

The cooling unit continuously maintains the set point, even when the vessel and platform are pitching. The cold chain is never interrupted by sea conditions.

      • Forged aluminum alloy casing

This material lightens the unit while maintaining high strength. It's a compromise built for intensive offshore use, where every kilo lifted counts.

      • Pivotal 20 ft format

28.4 m³ of usable volume offers the multi-item capacity of the reference format. A single unit covers the varied needs of a long platform mission.

      • Maintenance by certified refrigeration technicians

Preventive maintenance and rapid repair ensure continuity of the cold chain. On an isolated offshore site, this responsiveness is critical.

      • ATP/CAT-S and ISO 6346 compliance

Beyond offshore use, the container remains suitable for multimodal transport under controlled temperature. It fits into both land and maritime logistics chains.

      Applications

What is the price of a used 20 ft Reefer DNV Offshore container

The 20 ft Reefer DNV is an ultra-specialized pivotal format: it combines refrigeration regulation, offshore certification and a forged aluminum alloy casing.

Four factors drive the price observed:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability and delivery costs.

      • Cold-chain offshore demand

North Sea refrigerated operations sustain continuous demand for the pivotal format.

      • Cost of the cooling unit, aluminum alloy and DNV certification

Three specialized cost items that add up in the product's price.

      • Maritime logistics pressure

Reefer DNV supply remains concentrated among a few manufacturers.

      • Downstream costs

Road transport to the transit port, transshipment by supply vessel, handling by certified offshore crane.
