      Reefer High Cube

What is a Reefer High Cube?

The Reefer High Cube combines two features in a single container: the active refrigeration of a Reefer and the extra height of a High Cube. Like any Reefer, it carries an integrated refrigeration unit that regulates temperature between −25 °C and +25 °C. Like any High Cube, it stands approximately 30 cm taller — 2.896 m overall height versus 2.591 m for a standard size.

This combination addresses a concrete logistics problem in cold chain operations. A standard Reefer limits the loading height; for bulky, lightweight goods under temperature control, the container ceiling is reached well before the weight limit. The extra 30 cm of the High Cube recover this lost volume without changing the floor footprint or the handling profile.

The Reefer High Cube is therefore the standard format for tall palletised loads under cold chain: packaged frozen goods, cut flowers, fruit and vegetables in stacked cartons. The interior height of nearly 2.50 m allows two-level palletising, which significantly reduces the cost of transport per refrigerated cubic metre.

      • Increased refrigerated volume

Approximately 30 cm more usable height than a standard Reefer, with the same floor footprint. The extra volume directly benefits tall, bulky, lightweight cargo transported under temperature control.
      • Active regulated refrigeration

The integrated refrigeration unit, Carrier or Thermoking, actively produces and maintains temperature across the full range from −25 °C to +25 °C. It continuously compensates for heat ingress, with no thermal drift.
      • High-level palletising

The interior height allows pallets to be stacked two levels high under cold chain. The cost of transport per refrigerated cubic metre drops accordingly, without breaking the set point.
      • Maritime standard

Despite its extra height, the Reefer HC remains compatible with Reefer terminals and container shipping fleets worldwide. It is secured and powered exactly like a standard Reefer, everywhere.

      In detail

What is a used 10 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container?

A Reefer container is a refrigerated container: a built-in refrigeration unit produces and maintains a chosen temperature, adjustable from −25 °C to +25 °C. "High Cube", or HC, refers to a format raised about 30 cm above the standard; 2.89 m external height, versus 2.59 m. "Used" means the unit has already been in service, then reconditioned at the depot.

The box is made of Corten steel, a steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, with a stainless steel interior finish. The refrigeration unit, compatible with a refrigeration unit manufacturer or a refrigeration equipment manufacturer depending on availability, is tested at the depot before shipping. A few marks of use remain on the surface, aged paint, surface oxidation, lashing marks, with no effect on thermal regulation or compliance.

On this compact format, the extra 30 cm of height brings usable volume to 13 m³, with no increase in floor footprint. This vertical margin makes it easier to stack pharmaceutical drums on racks, handle large roll containers or store cosmetics vertically.

      In detail

How do you power a Reefer container?

Unlike an insulated container, which only slows heat exchange, a Reefer actively produces cold. It therefore needs a constant power supply.

The refrigeration unit plugs into a 380-460 V three-phase supply, via a 32 A industrial socket. At a quay or in a warehouse, connection is made to the mains. In transit or on an isolated site, a generator, the "genset", takes over. Planning for this power supply is essential: without electricity, the cold chain is broken.

      Applications

Keeping your goods at the right temperature

Reconditioned, this High Cube format offers the same usable height and regulation precision as a new unit, on a controlled budget.

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-site need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Sensitive scientific equipment

Measuring devices and electronic prototypes kept between 15 °C and 22 °C, stable throughout an international transit.

      • Collections and works of art

Books, paintings or historical archives requiring thermal stability between 18 °C and 22 °C.

      • Professional pastry-making

Creamy preparations, ice cream and sugary products at −18 °C or +4 °C, between labs and points of sale.

      • Cut flowers and bulbs

Horticultural storage between 2 °C and 5 °C, freshness preserved over several days of transport.

      Highlights

Why buy a used 10 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container

The used 10 ft Reefer High Cube combines two strengths, active refrigeration and increased height, at the lowest price in the segment. The strengths below show how reconditioning secures the refrigeration unit, the deciding element of a Reefer, and why a well-tested unit delivers the reliability of new.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • HC height at an accessible price

2.57 m of usable internal height, at a rate lower than a first-trip unit. It's refrigerated vertical volume at the best acquisition cost.

      • Tested thermal performance

The reconditioned refrigeration unit manufacturer's or refrigeration equipment manufacturer's unit undergoes a controlled cooling test before every delivery. The set temperature is checked, not just declared.

      • Managed maintenance

An annual preventive maintenance contract can be taken out to preserve the unit's lifespan. This follow-up is what secures a used refrigeration unit over time.

      • Fast repairs

Refrigeration technicians step in in case of a failure to limit any break in the cold chain. On a Reefer, an unaddressed interruption directly compromises the goods.

      • Re-validated compliance

The ATP/CAT-S and CSC plates are reissued and Cargo Worthy status is granted after inspection by an accredited body. The unit remains fit for maritime and regulated transport.

      • Sustainable approach

Extending the life of an existing Reefer HC avoids manufacturing a new unit and its refrigeration circuit; equipment that is particularly material- and component-intensive.

      Options available on request

The following options can be added to Used and First-trip versions depending on availability and specifications: PVC strip curtain, LED light pack, person-trapped-inside alarm, 1/3 - 2/3 door with easy-open handle, anti-panic interior opening mechanism, automatic humidity control, flat floor.

      Applications

What is the price of a used 10 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container

The used Reefer HC follows a specific secondary market, driven by European demand for vertical refrigerated volume.

      Four factors drive price variations:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help you read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability, and delivery costs.

      • Refrigerated shipping demand

HC height stays sought-after on pharmaceutical and horticultural chains, which slows the flow of units toward the secondary market.

      • Refrigeration unit and refrigerant gas cost

On used units, overhaul of the refrigeration unit manufacturer's or refrigeration equipment manufacturer's unit and the value of the gas in the circuit weigh heavily.

      • Logistics bottlenecks

A reprocessing delay at a refrigerated shipping operator can tighten the arrival of used HC units in France for several weeks.

      • Downstream costs

Pre-carriage to the depots, suitable handling and refrigeration recertification add to the purchase price.
