      Reefer High Cube

What is a Reefer High Cube?

The Reefer High Cube combines two features in a single container: the active refrigeration of a Reefer and the extra height of a High Cube. Like any Reefer, it carries an integrated refrigeration unit that regulates temperature between −25 °C and +25 °C. Like any High Cube, it stands approximately 30 cm taller — 2.896 m overall height versus 2.591 m for a standard size.

This combination addresses a concrete logistics problem in cold chain operations. A standard Reefer limits the loading height; for bulky, lightweight goods under temperature control, the container ceiling is reached well before the weight limit. The extra 30 cm of the High Cube recover this lost volume without changing the floor footprint or the handling profile.

The Reefer High Cube is therefore the standard format for tall palletised loads under cold chain: packaged frozen goods, cut flowers, fruit and vegetables in stacked cartons. The interior height of nearly 2.50 m allows two-level palletising, which significantly reduces the cost of transport per refrigerated cubic metre.

      • Increased refrigerated volume

Approximately 30 cm more usable height than a standard Reefer, with the same floor footprint. The extra volume directly benefits tall, bulky, lightweight cargo transported under temperature control.
      • Active regulated refrigeration

The integrated refrigeration unit, Carrier or Thermoking, actively produces and maintains temperature across the full range from −25 °C to +25 °C. It continuously compensates for heat ingress, with no thermal drift.
      • High-level palletising

The interior height allows pallets to be stacked two levels high under cold chain. The cost of transport per refrigerated cubic metre drops accordingly, without breaking the set point.
      • Maritime standard

Despite its extra height, the Reefer HC remains compatible with Reefer terminals and container shipping fleets worldwide. It is secured and powered exactly like a standard Reefer, everywhere.

      In detail

What is a first-trip 40 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container?

A Reefer container is a refrigerated container: a built-in refrigeration unit produces and maintains a chosen temperature. On this large format, the range is extended, from −40 °C to +30 °C, versus −25 °C to +25 °C on shorter Reefers. "High Cube", or HC, refers to a format raised about 30 cm. "First-trip" (also called one-trip) means it is a new unit, straight from the factory after a single trip.

The box is made of fully welded Corten steel, a steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, with a stainless steel interior finish. The insulation, 7 cm polyurethane foam, is optimized for deep negative temperatures. The industrial refrigeration unit is new, compatible with a refrigeration equipment manufacturer, a refrigeration unit manufacturer.

12.19 m long and 2.89 m tall, this format reaches 67.9 m³ usable for a 29,300 kg allowed load; up to 23 Euro pallets on the floor. The combination of large volume and an extended thermal range makes it the reference for deep-frozen exports and large-volume pharmaceutical chains.

      In detail

How do you power a Reefer container?

Unlike an insulated container, which only slows heat exchange, a Reefer actively produces cold. It therefore needs a constant power supply.

The refrigeration unit plugs into a 380-460 V three-phase supply, via a 32 A industrial socket. At a quay or in a warehouse, connection is made to the mains. In transit or on an isolated site, a generator, the "genset", takes over. Planning for this power supply is essential: without electricity, the cold chain is broken.

      Applications

Keeping your goods at the right temperature

The −40 °C to +30 °C range and the large capacity open up cold chains impossible for smaller formats.

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-site need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Deep-frozen goods

Fish, seafood and ultra-fresh products kept at −25 °C or below on trans-Pacific routes.

      • Pharmaceutical cold chain

Sensitive preparations between 2 °C and 8 °C, transported in large volumes to hospitals and international hubs.

      • Industrial frozen food chain

Meat quarters and ready meals palletized at −18 °C, exported with no break in the chain.

      • Specialty chemistry and heat-sensitive materials

Adhesives, resins or compounds requiring strict storage between −10 °C and +5 °C.

      Highlights

Why buy a first-trip 40 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container

The new 40 ft Reefer High Cube is the reference format for deep-frozen exports: large volume, HC height and extended thermal range combined. The strengths below explain what this combination brings and what new condition guarantees on the large-format refrigeration unit.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Extended thermal range

−40 °C to +30 °C, versus −25 °C/+25 °C on shorter formats. This range suits deep freezing and the most demanding pharmaceutical exports.

      • Maximum refrigerated volume

67.9 m³ usable, with an HC height that allows tiered palletization. The transport cost per refrigerated cubic meter is optimized.

      • New refrigeration unit under warranty

The refrigeration equipment manufacturer's, refrigeration unit manufacturer's unit is original, under a manufacturer's warranty. The warranty covers the most expensive and most critical element of the Reefer.

      • Managed maintenance

An annual preventive maintenance contract, refrigerant gas, components, exchangers, can be taken out at order. It preserves the unit's performance over time.

      • Fast repairs

Refrigeration technicians step in in case of an incident to limit breaks over long distances. On a long-haul export, this responsiveness protects the load.

      • Global logistics compatibility

ATP/CAT-S, ISO 6346, ISO 1161 and CSC are valid for maritime, rail and road transit. The unit moves across every cold chain.

      Options available on request

The following options can be added to Used and First-trip versions depending on availability and specifications: PVC strip curtain, LED light pack, person-trapped-inside alarm, 1/3 - 2/3 door with easy-open handle, anti-panic interior opening mechanism, automatic humidity control, flat floor.

      Applications

What is the price of a first-trip 40 ft Reefer High Cube shipping container

The new 40 ft Reefer HC belongs to a niche market, where the value of the extended-range refrigeration unit and deep-freeze capacity weigh more than the steel.

      Four factors drive price variations:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help you read a quote by distinguishing the product price, availability, and delivery costs.

      • Refrigerated shipping demand

Concentration on long-haul Asia-Europe-America routes makes new 40 ft HC units scarce as soon as activity rises.

      • Refrigeration unit and refrigerant gas cost

An extended-range refrigeration equipment manufacturer's or refrigeration unit manufacturer's unit (−40 °C/+30 °C) costs noticeably more than a standard one. Refrigerant gases, the "F-gases", and component sophistication weigh in proportionally.

      • Logistics bottlenecks

A blockage in the Red Sea or a port strike on the trans-Pacific route tightens supply for every large Reefer format within days.

      • Downstream costs

Road transport of a 40 ft Reefer with a genset or truck power point, specialized handling and customs formalities add to the factory price.
