      Double Door ; Tunnel container

What is a Double Door container?

A Double Door container, also known as a tunnel container, differs from a standard container in one simple characteristic: it has swing doors at both ends, not just one. Both ends of the box open.

This detail changes the handling logic entirely. On a standard container, you load and unload through the same door: to empty the back, you must remove everything in front of it, or drive a forklift in and then reverse it out. The Double Door eliminates this constraint — goods enter from one end and exit from the other, in a straight pass-through, without any reversing.

This through-flow speeds up logistics operations: a loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other, and the container becomes a true transit tunnel. The configuration also makes it easier to handle very long loads, which can be slid from end to end, and serves as a base for through-access conversions: airlocks, technical corridors, dual-access modules.

      • Through access

Swing doors are fitted at both ends of the box. You load from one end and unload from the other; access is no longer restricted to a single face.
      • Accelerated flow

Cargo passes through the container from end to end, without reversing or repositioning. A loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other: logistics flows gain in pace.
      • Long loads

Long goods slide from one end to the other without any angular manoeuvre. Their introduction and removal are significantly simplified.
      • Convertible passage

The two opposing openings make the Double Door an ideal base for through-access conversions: an airlock, a technical corridor, a dual-access module, or a covered walkway.

      In detail

What is a 20ft used Double Door container?

A Double Door container is a container fitted with doors at both ends of the body, not just one. "Used" refers to a reconditioned unit; a body already in service, inspected and checked at the depot before being put back into circulation. The 20ft format is the mid-size format in the range.

Both ends receive double doors opening at 270°: the container becomes a logistics tunnel, loaded from one side and unloaded from the other. The Corten steel structure, a self-weathering steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, is fully welded. The rubber seals and locking bars are inspected or replaced depending on condition, on both door interfaces.

In the 20ft format, the reconditioned unit offers 33.17 m³ of usable volume for a 28,230 kg payload and 13.87 m² of floor space. It is a proven solution for FIFO cross-docking, first-in first-out flows, and tunnel-mode transit, at an accessible cost compared with the first-trip, i.e. new, model.

      In detail

Double Door: what is a logistics tunnel for?

A standard container has doors at only one end. To empty it, you always come back to the same side. The Double Door adds a second set of doors at the other end of the body. The container becomes a tunnel: you go in one side, out the other.

This tunnel serves two warehouse logics. FIFO first: the first pallet loaded is the first to come back out, without moving the others. Cross-docking next: placed between two docks, the container receives incoming goods on one side and ships out on the other, with no turning maneuver. Flows gain in speed and order.

      Applications

Uses for a 20ft used Double Door container

The reconditioned 20ft serves logistics flows where tunnel mode remains required without justifying a new investment. Four uses illustrate this:

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-the-ground need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • FIFO wholesale platform

Sequential first-in first-out transit for fresh produce and fast-turnover packaging.

      • Textile and clothing industry

Fabric roll flows between production and distribution, with double-sided access for order preparation.

      • Recycling and sorting

Mixed materials enter at one end, sorted materials exit at the other; sorting made easier by the bidirectional tunnel.

      • Sequential-flow pharmaceutical industry

Bulk goods enter at the front and finished, packaged products exit at the rear, for a rational internal flow organization.

      Highlights

Why buy a 20ft used Double Door container

The used 20ft Double Door retains the tunnel function, the through-access that gives this format its value, at a reduced cost. The strengths below show what the depot inspection guarantees on both door interfaces and why surface patina changes nothing about its use.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Affordable price on the bidirectional tunnel

Used represents a significant saving compared with new, with no loss of the double-door function. The budget difference carries over to the project.

      • Corten body inspected at the depot

The welded structure is checked, the marine plywood floor inspected and sealing checked at both ends. The unit is refurbished.

      • Seals and locking bars inspected

The seals and bars are checked and replaced if degraded on both interfaces, then sealing is tested. The double access regains full function.

      • Operational FIFO cross-docking

The tunnel is immediately usable on delivery, with no intermediate preparation. First-in first-out pallet rotation starts as soon as it is put into service.

      • Eco-responsible approach

Extending the life of an existing Double Door body avoids manufacturing a new unit and saves several tonnes of steel.

      • Re-validated compliance

The ISO 6346 and CSC plates are checked and the Cargo Worthy rating remains possible for continued maritime use.

      Applications

What is the price of a 20ft used Double Door container

The used 20ft Double Door follows an active secondary market. Its availability depends on the arrival cycles of reconditioned dual-access bodies.

Four factors influence the prices observed:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the price of the product, availability and delivery costs.

      • Cross-docking and tunnel logistics demand

Strong among wholesalers, textiles, recycling and pharmaceuticals, which favor the used 20ft for their sequential flows.

      • Cost of Corten steel and dual hardware

Original materials and the cost of replacing seals and locking bars at the depot, on both interfaces.

      • Shipping logistics pressures

Reconditioned Double Door supply depends on the port arrival cycles specific to this segment.

      • Downstream costs

Standard 20ft road transport and handling equivalent to a Dry container.
