      Double Door ; Tunnel container

What is a Double Door container?

A Double Door container, also known as a tunnel container, differs from a standard container in one simple characteristic: it has swing doors at both ends, not just one. Both ends of the box open.

This detail changes the handling logic entirely. On a standard container, you load and unload through the same door: to empty the back, you must remove everything in front of it, or drive a forklift in and then reverse it out. The Double Door eliminates this constraint — goods enter from one end and exit from the other, in a straight pass-through, without any reversing.

This through-flow speeds up logistics operations: a loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other, and the container becomes a true transit tunnel. The configuration also makes it easier to handle very long loads, which can be slid from end to end, and serves as a base for through-access conversions: airlocks, technical corridors, dual-access modules.

      • Through access

Swing doors are fitted at both ends of the box. You load from one end and unload from the other; access is no longer restricted to a single face.
      • Accelerated flow

Cargo passes through the container from end to end, without reversing or repositioning. A loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other: logistics flows gain in pace.
      • Long loads

Long goods slide from one end to the other without any angular manoeuvre. Their introduction and removal are significantly simplified.
      • Convertible passage

The two opposing openings make the Double Door an ideal base for through-access conversions: an airlock, a technical corridor, a dual-access module, or a covered walkway.

      In detail

What is a 40ft first-trip Double Door container?

A Double Door container is a container fitted with doors at both ends of the body, not just one. "First-trip" means it is a new unit, out of the factory after a single positioning journey. The 40ft format is the long format in the range.

Both ends of a 12.19 m body receive double doors opening at 270°. The container becomes a high-volume logistics tunnel: goods are loaded from one side and unloaded from the other, with no turning maneuver. This configuration serves cross-docking, direct transfer from a receiving dock to a shipping dock, and FIFO flows, "first in, first out."

In the long 40ft format, the unit frees up 66.9 m³ of usable volume (11.932 m × 2.35 m × 2.393 m) for a 26,580 kg payload and 28 m² of floor space. The new structure is built on a Corten steel body and a marine plywood floor that withstands long rolling loads.

      In detail

Double Door: what is a logistics tunnel for?

A standard container has doors at only one end. To empty it, you always come back to the same side. The Double Door adds a second set of doors at the other end of the body. The container becomes a tunnel: you go in one side, out the other.

This tunnel serves two warehouse logics. FIFO first: the first pallet loaded is the first to come back out, without moving the others. Cross-docking next: placed between two docks, the container receives incoming goods on one side and ships out on the other, with no turning maneuver. Flows gain in speed and order.

      Applications

Uses for a 40ft first-trip Double Door container

The long 40ft format is aimed at multi-customer palletized flows for which tunnel mode optimizes warehouse rotation at high volume. Four typical uses stand out:

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-the-ground need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • FIFO multi-customer wholesale platform

First-in first-out pallet transit for regional distribution, up to 22 to 24 Europe pallets in sequential flow.

      • Automotive industry and assembly line

Sequential flow of long parts, tunnel access for bulk goods entering and prepared subassemblies exiting.

      • High-volume food distribution

Multi-dock flow with incoming goods entering and prepared orders exiting, which optimizes docking times.

      • Large-format industrial recycling

Mixed materials entering and sorted materials exiting, in long high volume.

      Highlights

Why buy a 40ft first-trip Double Door container

The new 40ft Double Door is the long format of the tunnel container: it turns a large body into a through-passage. The strengths below explain what dual access changes for high-volume cross-docking and why it detracts from neither payload nor robustness.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Long tunnel format

66.9 m³ usable and 28 m² of floor space provide the maximum capacity in the segment for multi-customer first-in first-out cross-docking.

      • Bidirectional tunnel

Double doors at 270° equip both ends. Goods enter at the front and exit at the rear, with no turning or maneuver.

      • High-volume FIFO cross-docking

Dual access optimizes pallet rotation in the warehouse. On a large format, this is a decisive asset for regional logistics hubs.

      • Payload equivalent to Dry 40

26,580 kg allowable, with no compromise compared with a standard 40ft Dry container. The second door costs nothing in capacity.

      • Corten steel body

The self-weathering steel structure guarantees maritime robustness. The container complies with ISO 6346 and CSC for long-distance transport.

      • Marine plywood floor

A continuous surface that withstands rolling loads handled from both ends. Through traffic does not wear down the floor.

      Applications

What is the price of a 40ft first-trip Double Door container

The new 40ft Double Door belongs to a specialized shipping segment. Its price depends on the limited availability of the long tunnel segment and the extra cost of dual opening hardware on a 12-meter format.

Four factors influence the price observed:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the price of the product, availability and delivery costs.

      • High-volume cross-docking logistics demand

The growth of multi-customer platforms and large-format food distribution sustains demand for the 40ft Double Door.

      • Cost of Corten steel and dual hardware

Body, two sets of 40ft doors and two long bar systems weigh on the factory price.

      • Shipping logistics pressures

40ft Double Door supply remains structurally more limited than that of the standard Dry 40.

      • Downstream costs

Standard 40ft semi-trailer road transport and handling equivalent to a Dry container.
