      Double Door ; Tunnel container

What is a Double Door container?

A Double Door container, also known as a tunnel container, differs from a standard container in one simple characteristic: it has swing doors at both ends, not just one. Both ends of the box open.

This detail changes the handling logic entirely. On a standard container, you load and unload through the same door: to empty the back, you must remove everything in front of it, or drive a forklift in and then reverse it out. The Double Door eliminates this constraint — goods enter from one end and exit from the other, in a straight pass-through, without any reversing.

This through-flow speeds up logistics operations: a loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other, and the container becomes a true transit tunnel. The configuration also makes it easier to handle very long loads, which can be slid from end to end, and serves as a base for through-access conversions: airlocks, technical corridors, dual-access modules.

      • Through access

Swing doors are fitted at both ends of the box. You load from one end and unload from the other; access is no longer restricted to a single face.
      • Accelerated flow

Cargo passes through the container from end to end, without reversing or repositioning. A loading station at one end, an unloading station at the other: logistics flows gain in pace.
      • Long loads

Long goods slide from one end to the other without any angular manoeuvre. Their introduction and removal are significantly simplified.
      • Convertible passage

The two opposing openings make the Double Door an ideal base for through-access conversions: an airlock, a technical corridor, a dual-access module, or a covered walkway.

      In detail

What is a 40ft first-trip HC Double Door container?

A Double Door container is a container fitted with doors at both ends of the body, not just one. "HC" stands for High Cube: the container gains about 30 cm of height compared with the standard 8'6" format. "First-trip" means it is a new unit, out of the factory after a single positioning journey. It is the maximum format in the tunnel range.

Both ends of a 12.19 m body receive double doors opening at 270°. The container becomes a high-volume logistics tunnel, loaded from one side and unloaded from the other. The new structure combines a Corten steel body, a self-weathering steel that naturally resists marine corrosion, fully welded to the HC gauge, two identical sets of doors and a 28 mm marine plywood floor.

The new 40ft HC frees up 76.3 m³ of usable volume (12.034 m × 2.35 m × 2.7 m) for a 26,460 kg payload, 9.4 m³ more than a standard 8'6" 40 Double Door. The 2.7 m interior height, combined with the bidirectional tunnel, allows tiered FIFO palletizing, stacking pallets on two levels, at high volume.

      In detail

Double Door: what is a logistics tunnel for?

A standard container has doors at only one end. To empty it, you always come back to the same side. The Double Door adds a second set of doors at the other end of the body. The container becomes a tunnel: you go in one side, out the other.

This tunnel serves two warehouse logics. FIFO first; First In, First Out: the first pallet loaded is the first to come back out, without moving the others. Cross-docking next: placed between two docks, the container receives incoming goods on one side and ships out on the other, with no turning maneuver. Flows gain in speed and order.

      Applications

Uses for a 40ft first-trip HC Double Door container

The new 40ft HC is aimed at high-volume tunnel flows where tiered palletizing becomes a decisive optimization lever. Four typical uses stand out:

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-the-ground need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Multi-dock HC food distribution platform

Europe pallets stacked on two levels in tunnel mode, optimization of regional multi-customer rotations.

      • E-commerce logistics; automated hub

HC palletized stock entering and prepared orders exiting, with double-sided access in tiered tunnel mode.

      • High-end automotive industry

Sequential flow of long, tall body parts on the assembly line, tunnel access for entry and exit with no break.

      • Large-format vertical industrial recycling

Mixed materials entering and sorted materials exiting, in long, tall high volume, suited to dismantleable vertical structures.

      Highlights

Why buy a 40ft first-trip HC Double Door container

The new 40ft HC Double Door is the ultimate format of the tunnel container: it combines 40ft length, High Cube height and dual through access. The strengths below explain what this combination brings to tiered high-volume cross-docking.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • Maximum long, tall format

12.19 m long by 2.7 m of interior height, for 76.3 m³ usable. It is the maximum capacity in the tiered high-volume tunnel segment.

      • Additional HC height

2.7 m of interior height, 30 cm more than the standard 8'6" 40 Double Door. This margin allows multi-layer tiered palletizing.

      • Bidirectional HC tunnel

Double doors at 270° equip both ends, on a format that is both long and tall. Through cross-docking operates in HC mode.

      • High payload

26,460 kg allowable, preserved despite the combination of 40ft, HC height and double doors. Load capacity is not penalized.

      • Fully welded Corten HC body

The self-weathering steel structure guarantees maritime robustness. The container complies with ISO 6346 and CSC for long-distance transport.

      • High Cube gauge compliance

The unit circulates multimodally, but its High Cube gauge requires checking available heights on routes with low bridges before transport.

      Applications

What is the price of a 40ft first-trip HC Double Door container

The 40ft HC Double Door first-trip combines three specifications; 40ft length, HC height and double doors. It sits in an ultra-niche segment of the tunnel container market.

Four factors weigh on the price observed:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the price of the product, availability and delivery costs.

      • Tiered high-volume cross-docking logistics demand

The growth of multi-dock HC food platforms and automated e-commerce sustains long-term demand for the long HC Double Door.

      • Cost of Corten steel and dual HC hardware

Long HC body, two sets of HC doors and two long bar systems weigh significantly.

      • Shipping logistics pressures

40ft HC Double Door supply remains extremely limited compared with standard formats.

      • Downstream costs

40ft HC road transport with bridge-tunnel clearance verification and handling equivalent to a Dry HC container.
