"High Cube", noted 9'6", refers to a container 30 cm taller than a standard 40 ft Dry. The term "first-trip" (also called one-trip) indicates a new unit, after a single positioning voyage.
Its usable capacity reaches 76.4 m³ for a 28.2 m² footprint and a 26,580 kg allowed load. The 2.695 m internal height allows uses out of reach for a standard 40 ft: Euro pallets stacked on two levels, vertical furniture storage, or fitting out a living space meeting habitability standards.

A "first-trip" container is new: intact factory epoxy paint, original seals, no signs of use. A "used" container has already been in maritime service; it is graded by condition, "Cargo Worthy" (CW), still fit for international transport, or "Wind & Water Tight" (WWT), simply airtight and watertight.
First-trip is the right choice for a fit-out project or long-term use. Used remains worthwhile for large-volume storage on a controlled budget.
