      Isothermal ; Passive insulation

      What is an isothermal container?

An isothermal container is a thermally insulated container that produces no cold. Its walls, roof, and floor are lined with polyurethane foam — an insulator that strongly slows heat exchange between the interior and the exterior. It carries no refrigeration unit.

This is the essential difference from a Reefer container. The Reefer is active: its refrigeration unit produces cold and continuously corrects any temperature drift. The isothermal is passive: it merely delays the inevitable. Cargo loaded cold warms up slowly, cargo loaded warm cools down slowly; the isothermal extends the delay without ever bringing the goods back to a set point.

This passive logic defines its applications. The isothermal container suits short hauls, buffer storage, and goods loaded already at the right temperature. Since it requires no electrical supply — no socket, no generator set — it offers a significantly simpler and more cost-effective solution than a Reefer, whenever active refrigeration is not strictly necessary.

      • Passive insulation

The walls, roof, and floor are lined with polyurethane foam. This insulator strongly slows thermal exchange but produces no cold: it delays temperature drift without correcting it.
      • No power supply required

No electrical connection is needed — no shore power, no generator set, no refrigeration unit to maintain. This simplicity eliminates all power logistics and makes it reliable on isolated sites.
      • Short-haul journeys

An isothermal container maintains an acceptable temperature over limited durations and distances. Beyond that, the difference with the outside eventually prevails: cargo must then be loaded already at the correct temperature.
      • Cost-effective solution

With no refrigeration unit to buy or maintain, the isothermal container costs far less than a Reefer. It is the rational alternative whenever active refrigeration is not strictly required.

      In detail

      What is a 10ft first-trip insulated container?

An insulated container is a fully insulated body: its walls slow heat exchange between the goods and the outside. It does not produce cold; it preserves it. "First-trip" means it is a new unit, out of the factory after a single positioning journey: the closest condition to new available on the market.

The body combines stainless steel and aluminum. Insulation is provided by polyurethane foam panels, an insulating foam molded between two walls, applied to the sides, ceiling and doors. The aluminum-rail floor drains liquids and cleans easily.

In the compact 10ft format, the unit offers 14.5 m³ of usable volume for an 8,500 kg allowable load, over 6.3 m² of floor space. Its small footprint (2.991 m × 2.438 m) makes it easy to park in the city, on narrow docks and constrained sites. Passive cold autonomy reaches 12 to 24 hours with eutectic plates.

      In detail

Insulated or Reefer: what is the difference?

The insulated container and the Reefer belong to the same refrigerated family, but rely on two opposite principles. The Reefer, a refrigerated container, carries an active cooling unit: it produces its own cold and maintains a chosen temperature, from −25°C to +25°C. It must stay permanently plugged into a 380V three-phase electrical supply.

The insulated container, on the other hand, produces no cold at all. It simply slows heat exchange through its insulation. It works without electricity and without a cooling unit to maintain. To extend autonomy, eutectic plates are added; cold accumulators frozen in advance in a cold room. On the 10ft format, passive autonomy reaches 12 to 24 hours. The insulated container is therefore suited to short trips, where active cooling is not necessary.

      Applications

      Uses for a 10ft first-trip insulated container

The 10ft format is dedicated to short logistics flows and sites with limited space.

The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-the-ground need to the container's concrete benefit.

      • Urban food delivery

City rounds for fresh produce and ready meals, tailgate unloading, passive cold autonomy up to 12 hours with eutectic plates.

      • Catering and events

Keeping buffets and meal trays at fairs, trade shows and seasonal markets, with no power constraint.

      • Emergency buffer storage

Immediate backup solution in case of a Reefer breakdown, or during cold room maintenance.

      • Local pharmaceutical transport

Short-distance transport of heat-sensitive medicines between laboratory and pharmacy, with cold accumulators.

      Highlights

      Why buy a 10ft first-trip insulated container

The new 10ft insulated container is a compact passive cold room, delivered ready to use. The strengths below explain what the absence of a cooling unit concretely changes, autonomy, simplicity, cost, and why this compact format suits short urban cold-chain circuits.

The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.

      • No power supply required

The container is usable immediately on any site, with no 380V connection or generator. This autonomy removes any power logistics and any electricity cost.

      • Compact urban format

2.99 m × 2.44 m footprint, enough to fit on a narrow dock or a constrained delivery zone. It is the format that fits where a 20ft does not.

      • Near-zero maintenance

With no cooling unit, there is no compressor to inspect or refrigerant gas to recharge. Maintenance is limited to checking the seals and cleanliness.

      • Compatible with eutectic plates

These cold accumulators, frozen in advance, bring passive autonomy to 12-24 hours. They recharge in a cold room between trips, with no onboard power at all.

      • Original compliance

ISO 6346 marking and the CSC plate are affixed at the factory. The unit circulates in multimodal transport, maritime, rail, road, with no modification.

      • Lower acquisition cost

With no cooling unit to manufacture, the insulated container costs noticeably less than a 10ft Reefer. It is the rational choice when active cooling is not required.

      Applications

What is the price of a 10ft first-trip insulated container

The new 10ft insulated container is a niche product. Most units come from the conversion of compact Reefer bodies straight from the factory. It is a format with limited supply and volatile pricing.

      Four factors influence price variations:

The factors below explain why the price can vary from one quote to another. They help read a quote by distinguishing the price of the product, availability and delivery costs.

      • Demand on short cold-chain circuits

The growth of urban food and pharmaceutical deliveries puts pressure on the supply of compact formats.

      • Cost of insulation materials

Polyurethane foam and its components follow raw material cycles; the F-gas regulation, which governs fluorinated gases, also weighs on blowing agents.

      • Shipping logistics pressures

The availability of compact bodies depends on port arrivals and the production cycles of convertible units.

      • Downstream costs

Standard road transport and flatbed truck handling, with no truck plug or generator to mobilize.
