In detail
What is a 20ft used HC insulated container?
An insulated container is a fully insulated body: its walls slow heat exchange between the goods and the outside. It does not produce cold; it preserves it. "HC," for High Cube, refers to a format raised by about 30 cm compared with the standard format. "Used" means the unit has already been in service, then reconditioned at the depot.
The body, made of Corten steel and stainless steel, is fully welded. Corten steel is a self-weathering steel that naturally resists marine corrosion. The insulation, made of polyurethane foam, an insulating foam molded between two walls, is checked by a thermal test before being put back on sale. The aluminum T-bar floor offers a flat, draining surface.
The used 20ft HC format offers 32 m³ of usable volume, versus 27.3 m³ for a standard 20ft insulated container, and a 27,580 kg allowable load. Its interior height of 2.54 m allows two-level palletizing and vertical packaging.
In detail
Insulated or Reefer: what is the difference?
The insulated container and the Reefer belong to the same refrigerated family, but rely on two opposite principles. The Reefer, a refrigerated container, carries an active cooling unit: it produces its own cold and maintains a chosen temperature, from −25°C to +25°C. It must stay permanently plugged into a 380V three-phase electrical supply.
The insulated container, on the other hand, produces no cold at all. It simply slows heat exchange through its insulation and the mass of its body. It works without electricity and without a cooling unit to maintain. To extend autonomy, eutectic plates are added; cold accumulators frozen in advance in a cold room. On the 20ft HC, passive autonomy reaches 18 to 36 hours depending on accumulator density and the load's initial temperature.
Applications
Uses for a 20ft used HC insulated container
Reconditioned, this tall format targets economical logistics with vertical packaging.
The applications below show in which contexts this format is most relevant. Each use links the on-the-ground need to the container's concrete benefit.
Highlights
Why buy a 20ft used HC insulated container
The used 20ft HC insulated container combines the vertical volume of High Cube with passive insulation, at controlled cost. The strengths below show what the depot inspection guarantees on insulation and what the extra 30 cm of height change for loading.
The strengths below explain what each technical choice brings to the project. They help compare the product with a less specialized alternative or a different condition.
-
Affordable price
Net saving compared with a new HC unit, with insulation checked by thermal test.
-
Optimized volume
32 m³ usable, 5 m³ more than a standard 20ft insulated container, for 2.54 m of interior height.
-
Body inspected at the depot
Corten and stainless steel structure checked, polyurethane insulation tested, aluminum floor cleaned.
-
No power supply required
Usable immediately, with no 380V connection. This reference is used to verify the container's suitability for transport, handling or regulated storage.
-
Sustainable approach
Reusing a reconditioned body avoids manufacturing a new unit. This reference is used to verify the container's suitability for transport, handling or regulated storage.
-
Re-validated compliance
ISO 6346 marking and CSC plate reissued; the Cargo Worthy rating remains possible for maritime use.
Applications
What is the price of a 20ft used HC insulated container
The used 20ft HC insulated container follows a restricted secondary market, less liquid than the standard 20ft and more sensitive to the conversion cycles of Reefer HC units put back on the second-hand market.
