What is a 40ft Reefer Super Freezer first-trip container?
A Reefer container is a refrigerated container: an integrated cooling unit produces and maintains a chosen temperature. The Super Freezer is an ultra-specialized version: a High Cube 9'6" body, raised by about 30 cm, fitted with a cooling unit built by Ingersoll Rand designed for very low temperatures, down to −70°C.

This configuration was deployed on a massive scale during the COVID-19 pandemic, to transport and store mRNA vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, which require strict storage around −70°C. Outside vaccination campaigns, the Super Freezer remains a niche piece of equipment.
The body is made of Corten steel, a self-weathering steel that resists marine corrosion, with an HACCP food-grade stainless steel finish. Its polyurethane foam insulation is reinforced to limit heat loss at extreme temperatures. It is used for research biobanks, sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients and premium ultra-fresh products.

Most maritime refrigerated containers operate between −25°C and +25°C. This range is enough for industrial frozen goods, standard food-grade fresh products and routine pharmaceuticals. The Super Freezer goes much lower, down to −70°C; a technological leap reserved for the most heat-sensitive molecules.
